Requirements - Art and Science

Writing a good set of well-formed and consistent requirements is a piece of art, because design work, design experience and expertise frequently take an important role. But it is also science: requirements must fulfil formal aspects, address its intended topic and convey sufficient information for use and testing.  Requirements can be easily traced to down-stream requiments and test cases in a design model. In addition requirements can be associated with all aspects of the model. This allows for a unique insight on how requirements affect the actual design.

Text documents and spread sheets play and important role in the design phase and documentation. They provide excellent flexibility and cover aspects for which dedicated tool are not available or do provide sufficient return on investment. But office documents are just too generic for the core activities of system design. They have no intrinsic knowledge of design and design consistency. Our experience shows that applying a model-based approach can be substantially more efficient and thus time and cost saving.

Our design work at qsas.eu is done using Sparx Systems Enterpise Architect ™ tool. Design activities make use of our modeling guide line, which continuously extended and adjusted. Our unique and certified development process helps to generate high-quality models. Of course, RTMs still can be generated if required!
